Porter Charles Edward Porter, 80, of Glenville, died Tuesday, September 14 in Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital, Weston, following an extended illness. He was born June 28, 1902, in Green County, Pennsylvania, a son of the late Thomas W. and Jenny Strosnider Porter. On September 5, 1922, he married the former Anna E. Black, who preceded him in death August 30, 1979. Surviving are three sons, John E. "Ed" Porter Sr., Mannington, Charles J. "Jack" Porter, Glenville and Donald F. "Don" Porter, Troy; eight grandsons, eight great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren and five step great-grandchildren. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family, having also been preceded in death by one son, William, one brother and one sister. Mr. Porter was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Glenville, Gilmer County Masonic Lodge 118, 32nd Degree Mason and Nemesis Shrine Temple, Parkersburg. He was a charter member of the Gilmer County Industrial Committee and owned and operated Porter's Motel and Restaurant in Glenville for many years. He was retired from the Equitable Gas Company with 46 years service as an assistant chief station engineer. Services were held Friday, September 17 with the Reverend Glenn Kirkpatrick officiating. Burial was in the Stalnaker Cemetery. Porter bought Plot #109 on July 31, 1950, and Plot #110 on May 2, 1951.
