The census indicates that he was 9 years old, living in a house on Greene Street with his grandmother, mother, a brother and a sister. He is listed as having been born in Pennsylvania as were her father and mother. His given name and middle initial are listed as "Thomas W" in this census.
  1940 (April 4) census data from the census images for Franklin Township (Morrisville), Greene County, Pennsylvania (ED 30-13 - sheet 2B - image 4 - line 54) on Ancestry.com. The census indicates that he was a 39 year old foreman, working for the township road, as a wage or salary worker in private work.  William T. Porter
  William Thomas Porter, 47, son of the late William A. and Jennie Strosnider Porter, of Morrisville, died at his home, Monday, March 22, 1948 at 3:25 p. m. after an illness of the past two years. He was born Oct. 8, 1900, in Franklin Twp and spent most of his life in that community where he once served as a township supervisor. Surviving besides his mother is a sister, Mrs. J. Harold Hiller, Morrisville, and a brother, Charles E. Porter, Glenville, W. Va.. One niece and four nephews are living. He was a member of the Morrisville Methodist Church and the Waynesburg Eagles Lodge. He never married.
