He was born in Greene County June 18, 1868, a son of Lewis Herman and Malinda Rush Powers. He was one of a family of three children. Mr. Powers was married to Ida May Porter July 27, 1896. She died in November, 1937. He was an electrical engineer and was last employed for 20 years by the Pittsburgh Railways Company at the electric sub-station at Canonsburg. Mr. Porter (sic) is survived by the following sons and daughters: Mrs. Gertrude Thompson, of Nineveh, R. D. 1; Charles W. Powers, of Washington; Elsie J., wife of Emery H. Haines, of Canonsburg; Wilbert L. Powers, Cambridge, O.; Herman L. Powers, of Canonsburg; Irene M., wife of Howard Bell, Canonsburg; Elizabeth, wife of Melvin Reynolds, of Weirton, W. Va.; 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. A sister, Mrs. Ida Moninger, of Deer Lick, Greene County, also survives. A son, Stanley Edward Powers, died May 12, 1952, at the age of 48.
