Mr. Sprowls was born in West Finley township, Washington county, but some years ago removed to North Strabane township where he had since resided. He was a well known farmer and stock raiser. For a number of years he had been a member of the Presbyterian church. His wife died ten years ago and he is survived by the following children: Miss Edna Sprowls, instructor in the Indiana State Normal school; Lester Sprowls, of Turtle Creek; Stella, Dorothy, Jesse, Irwin, Maud, Howard, Thelma and Elizabeth, all at home. He also leaves the following brothers and sisters: J. E. Sprowls, East Finley; Joseph Sprowls, Chicago; Mrs. T. F. Taylor, Canonsburg; Mrs. James Marshall, East Finley township, and Mrs. J. R. Travis, West Finley. Source - ÒWaynesburg RepublicanÓ newspaper, Waynesburg, Greene County, Pennsylvania, Thursday, January 20, 1916 -------------------- ELYMAS SPROWLS ANSWERS DEATH'S SUDDEN SUMMONS WELL KNOWN FARMER OF NORTH STRABANE TOWNSHIP STRICKEN WHILE ON VISIT AT STEPMOTHER'S BEDSIDE Considered an Authority on Pure-Bred Stock, and Was Interested in Community Affairs Elymas Sprowls, one of North Strabane Township's best-known farmers, died very suddenly at 8 o'clock Saturday night at the home of his mother near Burnsville, West Finley Township, of heart failure. He was born in East Finley Township (NOTE: THE LOCATION OF BIRTH CONFLICTS WITH THAT FOUND IN ANOTHER SOURCE) 65 years ago, but for 25 years had lived in North Strabane Township, where he followed farming. Mr. Sprowls had gone to East Finley Township to see his stepmother, who was stricken with paralysis five weeks ago. Mr. Sprowls had not been well for some time, but was able to attend to his farm work, and had been in Canonsburg only a few days ago. He had returned from West Finley Township about ten days ago, then had made another trip to see his mother, and on this trip he was stricken. Mr. Sprowls was greatly interested in fine stock breeding, and was an authority on pure-bred animals. He was a successful farmer, and besides looking after the affairs of his farm he took an active interest in community and political affairs. He was a member of the Hill Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Sprowls died a decade ago. These children survive: Edna Lee, an instructor at the Indiana State Normal School; Lester R., a druggist at Wilkinsburg; and Stella, Dorothy, Jesse, Irwin, Maude, Thelma and Bettie at home. He also leaves the following brothers and sisters: J. E. Sprowls, East Finley; Joseph Sprowls, Chicago; MRS. T. F. Taylor, Canonsburg; Mrs. James Marshall, East Finley Township, and Mrs. J. R. Travis, West Finley. Brief services were held at the home of Mr. Sprowl's mother Sunday, and today (Monday) the body will be brought by autohearse to the Sprowls home in North Strabane Township. At 1 o'clock Tuesday brief lifting services will be held in the home, and the funeral services proper will be conducted at 2 o'clock in the Hill Church, the Rev. Paul G. Miller, pastor, officiating.
