Berryhill, 63, one of the best known citizens of Waynesburg and Greene County and for a number of years chief of police of Waynesburg Borough, died in his home, Hillcrest Avenue, Waynesburg, Wednesday, September 27, 1939, at 10:30 a. m. Mr. Berryhill was in failing health for the last five years, but was seriously ill only for the last few days. He was well known in the oil and gas fields of this section, having been employed as a driller, not only in this state but also in West Virginia, Oklahoma and Texas. He was also district manager for the Standard Oil Company, and had charge of drilling operations in Colombia, South America, for several years. He was was elected chief of police for Waynesburg, which position he filled efficiently for eight years. In 1934 he was struck by an automobile while standing on the street in Waynesburg. He received injuries which forced him to resign from the police force, and since that time he was never able to engage in active work. He was a veteran of the Spanish-American War, and served in the Philippines as a member of Company K of the famous "Fighting Tenth". He was a member of Thomas S. Crago Post, Spanish-American War Veterans, and was also a member of the Waynesburg Lodge of Elks. Mr. Berryhill was born in Waynesburg, November 1, 1875, and was a son of Charles and Lanah Dille Berryhill. In 1906 he married Miss Alice Robinson, who survives. They became the parents of seven children, all of whom survive. The children are Miss Estella Berryhill, at home; Mrs. Ralph Porter, Mrs. Francis May, Mrs. Lloyd Tennant, Samuel T. Berryhill, Charles R. Berryhill and George A, Berryhill, all of Waynesburg. Three sisters, Mrs. Mary Gladden, of Detroit; Mrs. V. G. Warden, of Pittsburgh, and Mrs. Ed Amos, of McKeesport, and six grandchildren also survive. Funeral services will be held at his home, 277 Hillcrest avenue, at 2 o'clock, Friday, September 29, in charge of the Rev. W. Rufus Hofelt and the Rev. George S. Maxwell. A military funeral will be held, and burial will be in the Greene County Memorial Park.
