He grew up in Farmington and was drafted into the Army in 1968 and sent to Vietnam, where he served his country respectably, receiving the Bronze Star medal for Òdistinguishing himself by exceptionally meritorious service in connection with ground operations against a hostile force.Ó After returning from Vietnam, Bob met and married his wife, Debbie, in 1970, and in 1976 they moved to Phoenix, Arizona, looking for a better life. After working in the coal mines in West Virginia and the copper mines in Arizona, Bob had several jobs before retiring from the City of Phoenix Parks and Recreation Department. He loved working outdoors, and the job also allowed him to rescue many animals over the years and make them a part of his family. He was diagnosed with small cell lung cancer in October 2014 and put up the fight of his life trying to overcome the disease. He is preceded in death by his father, John E. Porter; his grandparents; and a nephew. He is survived by his wife, Debbie; sons, Robert Edward (Debyn) and Christopher (Jessica); mother, Betty (Jack) Shenal; father-in-law, Robert H. Ashcraft; brothers, John E. Porter Jr. and wife Carol, and William C.
