Wray Sprowls
Wray Sprowls, age 91, of Akron, died Friday, Feburary 7, 1997, at Akron General Hospital.
Born in Claysville, Pa., he was an Akron resident since 1928. He retired from Goodyear Tire & Rubber in 1968, where he was a supervisor in shipping and receiving. Wray owned his own fire extinguisher sales and service company from 1950 until he retired in 1988. He was a member of the McNaughton Street Baptist Church and held a number of positions in the church. He received an award, recognizing 50 years perfect attendance at the church. He was a fourth degree Mason.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Edith Sprowls; grandchildren and spouses, Jay and Susan Mitzel of Wadsworth, Sally and Mark Atwood of Wadsworth; great-grandchildren, Matthew Wray Mitzel, Sara Mitzel, Robert Mark Mitzel, Rachel Mitzel and Natalie Wray Atwood; granddaughter-in-law, Annette Wilkinson of Munroe Falls; stepson-in-law, August Campanini of Cleveland; sisters, Mabel Kilgore and Ruth Stagg, both of Pennsylvania. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Getrude O. Mitzel-Campanini and grandson, Robert M. Mitzel.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Monday at the McNaughton Street Baptist Church, 35 McNaughton Street, Akron, with Rev. John Snyder officiating. Calling hours will be Sunday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Hummel Funeral Home, 500 East Exchange St. Burial at Holy Cross Cemetery. The family prefers that donations be made to the McNaughton Street Baptist Church in Wray's name. (Hummel, a Golden Rule Funeral Home, 253-6126.)
