Sprowls Amos Kilgore Founding member of McGuffey senior center Mabel V. Sprowls Amos Kilgore, 100, of Claysville, died at 12:30 a.m. Monday, September 24, 2007, in Breese Rest Home, Buffalo Township. She was born December 28, 1906, in Enon, a daughter of Thomas Benton and Rebecca Jane Ealy Sprowls, and resided in Claysville most of her life. Mrs. Kilgore was the oldest living member of First Baptist Church of Claysville and a member of its Rainbow Class. She was an active member of Order of Evening Star Chapter 187, OES in Claysville and Claysville Mothers Club as long as her health permitted. She was a founding and charter member of McGuffey Senior Citizens Center. Mrs. Kilgore was a former employee of Curtis Pharmacy and the former Claysville A&P. Her first husband, John W. Amos, died May 18, 1956; she later married James S. Kilgore, who died August 4, 1983 (NOTE: THE YEAR OF DEATH CONFLICTS WITH THAT LISTED IN OTHER SOURCES). Surviving are two daughters, Mary Belle Amos Chess of Fairmont, W.Va., and Rebecca (Becki) Amos, wife of Nick Zullo of Prosperity; a son, William, husband of Carolyn Amos of Abbot, Maine; a stepdaughter, Irene, wife of George Bryan of West Virginia; a sister, Ruth Stagg of Washington; eight grandchildren, Michael, Phillip and Darlene Chess, Jeffrey Amos, Bobbi-Jo Amos Burdin, Beth Anne Amos Weymouth, Nick Jon Zullo and Cassandra Ann Zullo Georgetti; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service to be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, September 27, in First Baptist Church of Claysville, with the Rev. Jeffrey Gauvin officiating. Interment will be private and held at the convenience of the family. At the request of the family, no flowers will be accepted in the church. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to First Baptist Church of Claysville, P.O. Box 65, Claysville, PA 15323, Claysville Volunteer Fire Department or McGuffey Senior Citizens Center.
