(RED) POWERS Charles W. (Red) Powers, 72, of 609 Crumrine Towers, died Sunday, February 25, 1973, in Washington Hospital following a lingering illness. He was born May 20, 1900 at Deer Lick, Greene County, to Albert and Ida Mae Porter Powers. He retired from the Washington City Police force in 1947 following 23 1/2 years of service. He later worked as a guard for Washington Steel Company for 11 years prior to retiring in 1967. He was a member of Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 95 in Washington and the Pennsylvania Association of Retired Police. He was also a member of the Liberty United Methodist Church, the Loving Workers Class of the church and the Senior Citizens Club of Washington. His first wife Bessie Beatty Powers died in 1948. He remarried June 27, 1959 to Mildred Doak Boswell, who survives. Also surviving are two sons, Kenneth W., of Scottdale and Charles W. Jr., of Washington; two daughters, Mrs. George (Helen) Levers, of Washington and Mrs. Edward (Edith) Celenka (sic), of Washington; a brother, Herman, of Strabane; a sister, Mrs. Melvin (Elizabeth) Reynolds, of Midland; nine grandchildren and a great-granddaughter.
