Sprowls Died Friday Night of His Injuries At Penn Bridge Plant before noon Wednesday, Thomas B. Sprowls was fatally injured by the falling of a rail said to weigh near 400 pounds upon him on the head and an acetylin torch falling upon his chest. The rail bar been used in a crane and was being taken down. The torch was used in cutting away some of the structural parts of the old foundry. Tom had been working with Cecil Vanderhoof, but at the time no one saw the rail nor torch fall upon him. The rail struck him across the back of the head, causing fracture of the skull and concussion of the brain. He was also injured internally, one lung said to be punctured. Dr. F. L. Knox attended him and he was taken to his home. It was seen that he had small chance for life. But he asked of his fellow workmen, "What happened, what's the trouble?" A trained nurse was secured to help care for him. A specialist was summoned Friday evening from Wheeling, who examined Mr. Sprowls and pronounced both head and lung injuries of fatal character. He lingered until his heart wore out and died at 10:20 p. m. Friday, December 28, 1928, at his home on Mill Street. Funeral service, brief, in Claysville Baptist church at 10:30 a. m. Monday.
