Sprowls, practically all his life a resident of West Finley township, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. John L. Post, Blaine township, yesterday afternoon at 3 oÕclock, after an illness of a few weeks. Mr. Sprowls was a son of the late James and Elizabeth Montgomery Sprowls. He was born April 27, 1854 and until the fall of 1910 resided on the old Sprowls homestead where he was born, and where he engaged successfully in agricultural pursuits, stock raising and wool growing. He served efficiently and faithfully as carrier on one of the R. F. D. routes at West Finley for a period of 15 years. Nearly two years ago he was chosen to take charge of the dairy department of the Washington County home, a position he filled with credit until recently when he resigned, owing to failing health. For nearly a half century Mr. Sprowls was a member of the Windy Gap Cumberland Presbyterian church many years of which he was a ruling elder. He took an active part in church work, being leader of the church choir for many years, and was an earnest worker in the Sunday school and other church auxiliaries. He married on March 31, 1881, Miss Alice M. Beymer, whose death occurred May 23, 1910. The following children survive: Lynn O. Sprowls of West Finley; Mrs. Bertha E., wife of John L. Post, of Blaine township; Dr. Guy M. Sprowls of Imperial, Allegheny county; who was recently discharged from the United States army; and James Harold Sprowls, who was in the service and received his discharge from Camp Kearney, Cal., a few days ago. Wyit Sprowls of West Finley township is a brother. The funeral services will be held at Mr. SprowlsÕ home in Burnsville on Thursday afternoon at 2 oÕclock, in charge of Rev. Samuel Davis, pastor of the Windy Gap Presbyterian church, assisted by Rev. James Hamilton of Washington, a former pastor of the same church. The interment will be in the West Finley cemetery.
