Post, of near Taylorstown, well known church and Grange member, died in his home Thursday, May 7. Active in politics, Mr. Post had served two terms in the State Legislature, and had also been elected to the office of County Controller and County Treasurer, and served seven years as Chief Probation officer for Juvenile Court. Well Known In Politics John L. Post Was Native of Kansas John Lindley Post, 84, of near Taylorstown, died at 4:30 a.m., Thursday, May 7, 1959, in his home, Avella R.D. 1. He suffered a cerebral hemorrhage Monday. He was born August 21, 1874, in Pottawatamie County, Kansas, a son of Clark C. and Nancy McNay Post. He moved from Kansas to Warrensburg, Mo., in 1882, and was graduated from Warrensburg Normal School in 1892. He moved to Pennsylvania in 1894. Mr. Post taught school in Washington county schools 10 years, and moved to Blaine Township in 1909, where he followed farming most of his life. He was always interested in politics, being a Democrat. He served two terms in the State Legislature, 1913 to 1915, and 1923 to 1925. He was elected to the office of County Controller, County Treasurer, and served seven years as Chief Probation officer in Juvenile Court. He also served several years on the board of directors at Morganza. He was a member of Claysville Presbyterian Church and was an elder in the church. He was Past Master of Claysville Grange and Washington County Pomona Grange, and Seventh Degree member of National Grange. He was a member of Claysville Lodge, 477, F. and A. M. He married Bertha Sprowls, January 25, 1905, who survives, with the following children: Mrs. Kenneth D. Irwin, Claysville; Mrs. Robert M. Berry, Eighty Four; Clark S. Post, Taylorstown; Mrs. Clyde M. Knox and Mrs. Leonard W. Kirby, both of Claysville. Also surviving are 17 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. One brother and two sisters are deceased. POST - Friends of John Lindley Post, of near Taylorstown, who died Thursday, May 7, 1959, will be received after 7 p. m. Thursday, May 7, in Brownlee Funeral Home, Claysville, where services will be held Saturday, May 9, at 2:30 p. m., in charge of the Rev. Arthur Day, pastor of Claysville Presbyterian Church.
