Post, 96, of Avella, Blaine Township, died Sunday, December 14, 2008, in Southmont of Presbyterian SeniorCare, Washington. He was born May 23, 1912, in Taylorstown, a son of John L. and Bertha Sprowls Post. Mr. Post was a member of United Presbyterian Church, Claysville. He was a 1931 graduate of Claysville High School. Mr. Post was a farmer and, at various times, raised dairy cattle, beef cattle and fine- and coarse-wool sheep. He also drove a school bus for 15 years. In 1988, Mr. Post received the Conservation Farmer Award for the Washington County district. He was also a 10-year member of Washington County Agriculture Stabilization Committee, served on Claysville School Board as it transitioned to McGuffey School District, and was the last surviving founding member of Roulette Hunt and Fish Camp of Potter County. He enjoyed working on his farm and tending to his wife during her lengthy illness. On May 30, 1936, in Taylorstown, he married Mary Dutton, who died July 6, 1996. Surviving are three sons, John D. (Pat) Post and Frank L. (Cheryll) Post, both of Avella, and Clarke S. (Nancy) Post Jr. of Warren, Ohio; two daughters, Betsy P. Miller of Florence, Ariz., and Mary Jo (Michael) Flory of Washington; two sisters, Dorothy Knox of Claysville and Helen Martha Kirby of Albuquerque, N.M.; 16 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Deceased, in addition to his wife and parents, are two sisters, Mary Irwin and Alice Berry. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in Michael H. Heinrich Funeral Home, 219 Main Street, Claysville, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, December 19, with the Rev. Merle Timko officiating. Interment will be in Claysville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Claysville or Taylorstown volunteer fire departments or a charity of the donor's choice.
