She was a graduate of Claysville High School and Indiana Normal School, now Indiana University of Pennsylvania. She was a schoolteacher in Avella and Claysville area schools. Mrs. Irwin was a member of the auxiliary of American Legion Post 639 of Claysville, a member of the Pennsylvania State Education Association and a 50-year member of Order of the Eastern Star, in which she was a former worthy matron. On August 21, 1933, in Avella (NOTE: THE LOCATION OF MARRIAGE CONFLICTS WITH INFORMATION FOUND IN ANOTHER SOURCE), she married Kenneth D. Irwin, who died Janueary (sic) 8, 1975. Surviving are a son, John Irwin of Claysville; a daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth Wilson of Hollywood, Md.; a brother, Clark (sic) Post of Taylorstown; three sisters, Alice Berry of Eighty Four, Dorothy Knox of Claysville, and Helen Martha Kirby of Belin (sic), N.M., three grandchildren, Tracy Wilson Schultz, Lisa Wilson and Michael Wilson; four stepgrandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. IRWIN - Friends of Mary E. Post Irwin of Claysville, who died Friday, December 27, 1991, will be received from noon to 3 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in the Ferrell Funeral Home, Main Street, Claysville, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, December 30, with the Rev. Meade Lacock officiating. Interment in Claysville Cemetery. Donations may be made to the Arthritis Foundation, 2200 Clark Building, Pittsburgh, Pa. 15222.
