The following is from a letter from Louis Sprowls to William Porter dated February 20, 2004 (the wedding referenced is that of his sister, Louise):
"This was a home wedding in the Sprowls homestead which was in the Sprowls family as of 1839 and remained in Sprowls until 1952 when your father sold it. The farm was bounty land given to Revolutionary War Veteran, Matthew/Mathias Newland, whose daughter (apparently) then married William Sprowls (your grandmother Porter's grandfather) in 1839. Your grandmother Porter's girlhood would have been on this farm. However the house burned around 1890 and a new house was then constructed across the road which was my boyhood home until I married. The farm is pretty well grown up now by woodland and the buildings are in bad state of repair (that is the ones that are still standing). My parents lived on the farm from 1932 until 1950 when your father purchased it and rented it for a couple of years. (before selling it)"
