His given name and middle initial are listed as "Joseph B" in this census. -------------------- JOSEPH BENTLEY SPROWLS Joseph Bentley Sprowls, better known as "Joe," a native of West Finley Township, died October 10 last at his home in Evanston, Ill. The Gibson City Enterprise said Mr. Sprowls was a leading and influential resident of Gibson City for a period of 30 years. He was interested in community affairs, being one of the first persons to organize a troop of Boy Scouts and was a strong advocate of the township high school movement. Mr. Sprowls was born in West Finley Township, this county, February 22, in the year 1862, being a son of the late Nelson and Elizabeth Sprowls, who with other residents bearing the name Sprowls were staunch citizens, contributing greatly to the general advancement of religious and educational affairs. When a young man, Joseph B. Sprowls went to Illinois. His three brothers and four sisters preceded him in death, but there remain in West Finley Township a large number of cousins.
