He was born in Pennsylvania as were his father and mother. His given name is listed as "William" in this census.

The census indicates that he was a 27 year old farmer, who was born in March, 1873.   There were three servants listing as living in this household whose ages were 14, 22 and 28. The two older servants were listed as farm laborers, and the youngest was listed as being at school, although it appears he worked on the farm when he was not attending school.  William A. Porter
  William A. Porter died at his home in Franklin Township, Tuesday morning, November 20, at 11 o'clock, aged about 35 years, of typhoid fever. Mr. Porter was a son of Thomas I. Porter, deceased, and for several years was a contractor for heavy hauling and later engaged in the dairy business. He is survived by his wife and three children. His aged mother and one sister, Miss Emma Porter, who have recently resided with Mr. Porter, also survive. The funeral services were held Thursday morning, conducted by Revs. J. F. Dimit and T. W. Colhour. Interment in Green Mount cemetery.

 PORTER - Wm. A. Porter died at his home in Franklin township, two miles southeast of town, about 11 oÕclock Tuesday morning, November 20, Ô06 after 10 days illness of typhoid fever. The deceased was a son of the late Thomas I. Porter. He was honest, warm-hearted and generous, ever ready to aid the suffering and distressed. He was aged about 33 years, and leaves a wife and three children, besides his widowed mother and sister Emma, to mourn his death. The funeral took place from the late home Thursday at 10 a. m. conducted by Revs. Dimit and Colhouer. Interment in Green Mount cemetery.
