 World War I Draft Registration Cards, 1917-1918 show Alexander Harry Birks Birth: date Residence: Suffolk, Massachusetts.
 He and his wife emigrated to the USA 18th May 1910 on the SS Friesland and became naturalised US citizens in 1917. Alexander worked for the United Fruit Co. as a Captain on their ships. the Ellis Island website shows lots of arrivals and departures for him, with variations of his name.
 His last ship was the SS Tivives. He went missing 2 days out at sea from New York en route for Kingston, Jamaica, according to a report in the New York Times archive. The last record found so far for his widow (the 1930 census) shows her working as a waitress in a restaurant in the Bronx, New York.
