 attended Cleary College, Ypsilanti MI after H.S., taking secretarial
 courses, then studying English Literature, Social Work and Psychology. She
 worked three years under Federal Civil Service, in Army camps, meeting her
 husband at Fort Custer, where he was in the Army in World War II, transferring
 with him to Camp Custer, WISC, and Murac AF Base, CA. After several short
 positions worked after her children were in school all day, she began state
 work, for 13 years at Adrian Training School, and 9 as an advancement to a
 caseworker at Social Services. Precious work was secretarial. At Social
 Services she mostly did field work, checking for problems and eligibility in
 clients' homes. During World War II she organized and was president of
 Service Wives' Club, a support group sho also delivered food and greetings to
 servicemen in troop busses. She has been very active at the First Baptist
 Church (American Baptist), holding man offices, including president of her
 wormen's group, and as vice-president of Christian Service and Social Concerns
 and allied board member of the State/Region American Baptist Women, conducting
 seminars and writing articles for the State newsletter. Fern's intersts
 include promoting Native Americans, she has lobbied for a Navtive American
 Day. Her hobbies also include reading, handcrafts, music, medicine, and
 traveling. She was a member of Sweet Adelines for 3 years. [FOK]
  Obituary for Fern O. Trebilcock
 ADRIAN – Fern O. Trebilcock, age 97 of Adrian, passed away Tuesday, January 3, 2017 at Lenawee Medical Care Facility.
  She was born April 7, 1919, in Tecumseh, to Alvah R. and Ruby A. (Johnson) Knight. Fern was a 1937 graduate of Adrian High School. She also attended Cleary College in Ypsilanti, Adrian College, and Siena Heights University. Fern began her employment as a secretary, but quickly advanced to the field of Social Work. She was a Certified Social Worker for the Adrian Training School and retired from the Michigan Department of Social Services in June 1982.
  Fern met her husband, George E. Trebilcock, at Fort Custer in Battle Creek, while she was working in the office. On June 6, 1942, the couple married. They celebrated 27 years together. He preceded her in death December 28, 1969.
  Fern was involved in numerous roles in her lifetime with the First Baptist Church as a Deaconess, clerk, teacher, historian and Mission Chairman, President of the American Baptist Women’s Circle, Vice President of American Baptist Women for the State, a member of the State Executive Board, and part of the Mother’s club when her children were younger. She was a member of American Business Women’s Association, did volunteer work with Bixby Medical Center and First President of Service Wives Club during WWII. She was a member of the Adrian First United Methodist Church. Fern also found the time to be a part of the Irish Hills Sweet Adelines and Red Hat Society. Hobbies included all types of crafts, walking and gardening. She enjoyed traveling with her family, outdoor picnics and was a known animal lover.
  Fern is survived by her son William Trebilcock, and his wife, Susan of Coldwater, MI, and daughter-in-law Anita Allen of Adrian; Granddaughter, Angela Grimes, and her husband, Gary of Adrian; four great-grandchildren, Dane, Blake, Sydni and Kaitlyn Grimes of Adrian; and several nieces and nephews.
  In addition to her parents and husband, George, she was preceded in death by her son Thomas Trebilcock; and siblings Ralph Knight and Helen Law.
  Funeral services will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 7, 2017, at Wagley Funeral Home in Adrian with Rev. Chris Brundage officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. and again on Saturday from 10:00 am until the time of the service.
