Notes
a. Note:   Mary Smith was possibly born before her parents were married as she is the only one of seven children for which a baptism record has not been found.
George Burnett Sr. Married Mary Smith on May 13, 1846 at St. Mary's parish church in Whitby. The couple were living together at Stainsacre at the time and Mary already had a five year old son named William; who in later census returns was
described as George's son (although it is unlikely that he was).
The ages which Mary gave in census returns 1841-1891 were all consistent with a birthdate in 1820. Her birthplace was constantly given as Fylingdales, except for one occasion (1881) when it was given as Goathland. Some of her brothers and
 sisters were baptised in Goathland.
She died 15 years before her husband, George.
Death reported by E. Burnett, daughter-in-law, of Church St. Whitby. Age at death 80 years.
Mary and George are buried in the same grave; together with two of their children. The headstone marking the grave also remembers two infants who were buried in St. Mary's churchyard.
