a. Note:   1881 census: Christopher was living in Upgang Lane, Ruswarp -occupation: farmer's hind, given age 34 yrs.-with wife Hannah and five of their six children. (Found in the National Index for the 1881 census under the surname BURNELL).
 Hannah was Christopher's first cousin; the daughter of his uncle, Robert.
 1891 census: Christopher was living in Front Street, Ugglebarnby -occupation miner, given age 46 yrs., with wife Eliza and four of the above children, plus the surviving two of four known children with Eliza.
 Christopher was "quick off the mark" for his second marriage -there was only twelve months between the birth of his last child with Hannah and the birth of his first child with Eliza.
