Note: John Jr. was a baker and had a bakery in Loftus, and later Staithes. John was the third of seven children of John Burnett Sr. and Elizabeth Mead. 1807 John bought "Well House" + 5 acres at Stonebeck Gate, Little Fryup. 1812 John sold "Well House" and moved to Great Moorsholm, Skelton 1813 John bought "Hankells" +33 acres at Great Moorsholm 1815 John listed as "owner & occupier" at Moorsholm, in land tac assessments for parish of Skelton 1816 in Skelton parish register, at baptism of daughter, Ann, John is described as "labourer" 1819 In Loftus parish register, at baptism of son Robert, John is described as a "baker". 1821-1841: John is described as a "baker" in baptism registers of Loftus and Hinderwell. 1829 John described as "widower of Staithes" at his second marriage to widow Hannah Moore. 1841 census John Burnett recorded as a "baker" in Main St., Staithes. 1851 census John still at Staithes but now as a "master baker" 1853 Death Certificate gives John's occupation as "baker" and age at death 79 years. His actual age at death was 76 years. Death was registered by a John Hall of Boulby Farm, Easington-now known to be a son-in-law, husband of Mary; John's daughter by his second marriage. The burial of John Bonnett age 63 years was recorded, in the Loftus parish register, on Dec. 20, 1853, six days before death, and 13 years younger. This was probably the burial of baker John-the burial may have been on Dec. 30, 1853.
