Note: William married Emma Burton three weeks before the 1841 census was taken. The census found them living in Middlesbrough, which is where all of their five children were born. Their first child, John, died before his 2nd birthday and their second child, born just a few weeks later, was also named John. The other children were born at intervals of about 2 years until March 1851. The 1851 census returns for Middlesbrough show the family living in Mason St. with father William working as a railway labourer. William died in Feb. 1852 which must have been a "leap year" for he was buried on Feb. 29th. One week after his burial, all four of his children were baptised, for a second time, on the same day, March 7, 1852, at St. Hilda's parish church in Middlesbrough. The children had each been previously baptised, shortly after their birth in Middlesbrough Wesleyan Methodist Chapel.
