Vital Records #11654-Maria's death certificate lists the names and birthplace of her parents as follows: Henry Yeoman -born in England and Rachel Dobson-born in England email from [email protected] Jimmie/Ann. I just noticed your Roots Web mention of our family. Maria Yeoman's father was indeed Henry Yeoman. Henry Yeoman was my great, great grandfather. Maria's siblings, are Mary 1854, John 1858, Sarah 1860 and little Annie born in 1866. I have some personal effects of Annie and Mary Yeoman handed down to me. Mary Yeoman became Mary Duck upon marriage, and that is a fascinating family tree history, in it's own right. Indeed, I have personal childhood memories of stepladders that had "Yeoman Moffatt" printed on them, they were the property of Annie Yeoman Moffatt and Isaac Moffatt, when they did painting and decorating. My father had them when I was a child. Someone with excellent and detailed knowledge of the Yeoman family is Bev Yeoman, I suspect you may have already communicated with her, she is my sixth cousin. We have visited the homes of the Yeoman family at that time, Ewecote and Carr End Farm and have photographs. Little Annie, after the death of her parents 1882, lived with Mary, and ultimately married her neighbour Isaac Moffatt on 22 September 1888. Isaac and Annie Moffatt had an only child, John Albany Moffatt 13 May 1891, who was my paternal grandfather (father of my father). Don't worry about variation in spellings such as Moffat, Moffet, Moffatt, Moffett, Moffitt. Surnames were not properly standardised in England, until the First World War. In my pedigree, I have people born Moffet, and died Moffat, etc. When Mary Yeoman (Maria's elder sister) was marrying, rather poignantly, we can see she spent significant time learning to write her name, we can see her practising her script in the bible she was given, by those at the Sunday School she taught in Briggswath. So reported names, especially of other families outside of "Yeoman Burnett" would be received pronunciation spellings, The person referred to in your Roots Web reference, as "Aunt Annie Moffett" in the sailing next of kin, is in fact Maria's youngest sister, of course she, is the aunt of the two daughters, Lilly and Annie, that Maria is travelling with. Lilly and Annie have put down Annie Moffatt as "Aunt" whereas Maria puts "sister". Indeed I think we can assume that Annie Burnett is named after her Aunt Annie Yeoman Moffatt. I just looked at the Philadelphia passenger lists, and it says "sister" in regards to Maria which is correct and "Annie Moffatt" which is correct as Annie wrote her name. And indeed Isaac and Annie lived in Stockton on Tees, at Alma Street, in 1907, we have all the documentation about that. Indeed I was born nearby in Stockton. The Skelton reference is not Annie's address, it was the "last present residence" of Maria Yeoman. Maria was born in Briggswath. The mining history of this family in England, America, and other destinations is also a fascinating story. Best regards Steve Moffatt. |
