Note: J. T. must have inherited his musical talent from his daddy. He used to sing all the time. Old friends of his came by the store one day and told Frank that when they were young, they used to go to all the juke joints in Sumter County with J.T. to hear him sing.Every Time I hear "Ragmop", I think of J.T. because he used to sing it to me whenever we went to Grandmomma's to visit. J. T. died of Luekemia in 1957. Obit: Dec. 3, 1957 J.T.OWENS DIES IN EAST POINT,GA. News of the death of J. T. Owens,son of Mrs. J. T. Owens of Sumter,which occurred early Monday morning at East Point, Ga.,was received here by memebers of his immediate family. Mr. Owens has been in ill health for several months. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Betty Owens, one son, Kenneth, one daughter, Debra, his mother, three brothers, Horace and Clifford Owens of Sumter and Walter Owens of Marshallville, Ohio,and one sister, Mrs. Earline Morris of Sumter. The body is at the Carmichael Funeral Home in East Point, Ga. ,from where his funeral services will be held at 3 o'clock Thurs. afternoon.
