Staley-Rachel Staley. Samuel was a planter. He had 650 acres of land and 17 slaves. He paid taxes of $9.97 in 1851 for his property. Valued at $1,800.00. Seventy-two years, four months mark the time of a good life. Uncle Donie-as he was familiarly known, joined the Methodist church at Cattle Creek campground in young manhood...He was twice married. His first wife was Miss Sallie Fairy. His second was Miss A. Rosa Staley, who survives him. His three children have long since gone on to welcome him.He served his country four years as a soldier in the war of the secession...buried at Bethel Church, Cameron charge...(his pastor, T.W. Godbold). Obit-Times and Democrat3-19-1914 Thurs.: Dan Staley...Elloree, March 17...an aged Confederate veteran, died at his home near Elloree last Mon. morning and was buried in the family cemetery. Mr. Staley leaves besides his wife, Mrs. Ellison Wiles of Lone Star.
