a. Note:   John and Mae's marriage announcement was in the Times and Democrat, Orangeburg, SC on Oct. 17, 1916.
 "Married, Miss Mae Lane of this city and Mr. John T. Staley of Meggetts...on last Sunday afternoon by Rev.. D. D. Dantzler..
 Several relatives and interested friends were present.
 After John's death, Herman Jones-Ruth Wiles husband, came often to see Mae and the children. He thought a lot of Mae and checked on them regularly.
 Kellar Carr-John's nephew, also came by to see Mae and
 the children. Once he took all the kids to Charleston at Christmas time and gave them each $.25 to spend. Momma bought a little celluloid doll with her $.25. Later, Tea got made at her and stuck a match to the doll and burned it up.
 Tea remembers trading Momma something she had for a little china doll in a purple wicker basket. She kept it for years. One of Rose's cats knocked it off a table and broke it.
 After John's death, Mae lived with her children in Charleston, SC until her death July 28, 1949. She made her living as a seamstress. She took in sewing in her home. She died of a stroke and she is buried with John at East Bethel Methodist
 Church Cemetery, Lone Star, SC.
