Note: The name, Staley, is of German origin. We have found records confirming that John Staley Jr. is the father of Samuel R. Staley, who is the father of Donald N. Staley. We also have records confirming that Donald N. Staley and his second wife Rosa were cousins. Rosa is the daughter of William W. Staley; therefore, William W. and Samuel were probably brothers or half brothers. We assume that John Staley Jr. is the father of both of them. We know that Margaret Barbara Funchess is the mother of Samuel; we do not know if she is also William W. Staley's mother. SC Archives Civil War records: W. W. Obit:Times & Democrat,Sept. 12, 1900: W. W. Staley....of Lone Star, died about two weeks ago in the seventy second year of his age.He was a Methodist and a highly respected citizen. He leaves several children and a host of friends to mourn his death. William W. and wife Martha are supposed to be buried in an old Staley Cemetery located off SC Hwy 6 near the Perrow home outside of St. Matthews. I have been told that it is near the old Perrow Farm; but we have not been able to find it. Cousin George Salley remembers going there as a boy with his grandmother, Martha Eliza Carr Council. He said that it had a white picket fence around it and was on an old farm on the road to Orangeburg.
