  Ruth Dover was born in outback New South Wales at Tambaroora in 1874. She met and eventually married James Charles Noel Wilson on 3 Jul 1902 in Sydney. As well as raising her own children she took on the responsibility of raising her husband's siblings, after a terrible fire in Inverell, where their parents tragically lost their lives only two months before their marriage. Raising children seemed to be her lot in life as eventually she also helped to raise her daughter Lucy's children when Lucy tragically developed Parkinson's Disease.
  Ruth was renowned for being a champion cake and biscuit maker and won every show prize in the Western District. She was eventually appointed as a judge as nobody would enter the events due to there being no chance of winning.
  Ruth loved the theatre and would often sit through two or three sessions a day opposite where they lived in Bondi Road, Bondi. Her granddaughter Joan would often accompany her.
  Later in her life she lived with her daughter Melba and her husband Jim Keating as she developed glaucoma and lost her eye. She died at 12 Niblick Street, North Bondi, in 1959 at 85 years of age.
