  The Late Mr. William Farrell.
Mr. William Farrell, who passed away on November 10 at the Sacred Heart Hospital, Darlinghurst, adds another to the list of the pioneers of the State who are passing away. Born on the Hawkesbury 83 years ago, he was the only son of Andrew Farrell, and at 12 years of age drove a team over the Blue Mountains to the then famous gold diggings at Hill End. For many years he carried on the business of carrying, and would relate the many experiences he had with the bushrangers. He lived in and around Richmond for many years, and in 1867 the big flood on the Hawkesbury, which caused havoc among the farmers, struck him heavily, taking with his home every animal belonging to him and leaving him practically destitute. Notwithstanding, he persevered and went to work again on his farm and reared a family of two sons and five daughters. In 1887 he decided to go further inland and took up land in the Coonamble district, principally sheep raising. Remaining there for many years, he experienced many terrible droughts, and decided to hand over the reins of management to his son, J. T. Farrell, and came to the city some twelve or fifteen years ago. The late Mr. Farrell never appeared to enjoy city life, but age creeping on he reconciled himself to God's will. About four months ago illness forced him into the hospital, where under the care of the good sisters, he remained until his death. He is predeceased by his wife Catherine, who died thirteen years ago. He sustained the loss too of a son and two daughters. He leaves behind him to mourn his loss one sister, Mrs. E. Eather of Belmore, whose age is 85; three daughters - Mrs. McCarry, of Thompson Street, Drummoyne; Sister Mary Agnes, of the Brigidine Order, Victoria; Kathleen Kiely, of Adam Street, Campsie, and one son, Frank Farrell, of Coonamble. His descendants consist of four children, twenty-eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
