Note: -------------------- Alan was a quiet, shy, retiring man with the reputation of having a dry, quick wit. He and his brothers were raised to be gentlemen to the credit of their parents. Alan had the reputation in the Army of being an amazing quoits player and to give the others a chance of winning their competitions, Alan had the handicap of playing quoits with his left hand as opposed to his right, but unfortunately for the others he still came out on top! After leaving the Australian Army Alan obtained a job with the Railway Department at Darling Harbour, Sydney, as a porter, loading and unloading the supplies on trucks with his brother Ernie. He and his brother, Ernie, enjoyed spending time together, planning day trips and holidays as they both enjoyed fishing. He also enjoyed establishing his garden at his home in Fairfield, New South Wales, he shared with his wife, Betty, and children Robyn and Alan. He loved animals and had a ginger cat named Megsy (after the famous cartoon character Ginger Megs). Alan had a good knowledge of the english language and instilled the importance of this on his children. He was a loving husband and father to his family. His wife Betty gained special permission to marry Alan in the Catholic Church at Ashfield despite his family being raised in the Church of England. He was also buried in the Catholic Section at Rookwood when he passed away.
