Notes

Russell was a very quiet, shy, retiring man, with a keen and mischievous sense of humour, who loved his parents dearly. They instilled in him the qualities of a gentleman, along with his siblings, and he was indeed a gentle man. Despite his quiet mannerisms, Russell loved music and was known to own many an instrument, among which included piano accordians, ukuleles, electric guitars and electronic slide guitar (due to the fact that he loved Hawaiin music). He also played in a band for charity called the Jolly Revellers. He met his wife Lily at one of these charity concerts.
Russell was a keen handyman and very creative when he was younger. He loved to use his hands and created his own designs and inventions. He was able to build fish tanks from scratch and wooden high chairs and baby furniture which he hand spray painted and to which he attached colourful transfers. He also made and painted colourful flower pots for indoor and outdoor use. He was very versatile in many areas. He also made decorative brooches and sold these privately.

  ST. ANTHONY'S HOME
The committee of St. Anthony's Home, Croydon, offers its sincere thanks to the many benefactors who, by subscribing to the Christmas appeal so liberally, made the Holy Season one of the greatest joy for the little inmates. Owing to newspaper rationing, space is not available for publication of the usual list of donors; in every case, however, an acknowledgment has been forwarded to each contributor. The committee also wishes to thank particularly those girls of W. D. and H. O. Wills (Aust.), Ltd., Kensington, who gave the children an afternoon of sheer delight and many beautiful toys on the eve of Christmas. In this connection our thanks are also due to the members of the Jolly Revellers' Club, Electric Car Shops, Chullora, for a similar treat given early in the New Year.

  DRUMMOND HOME PARTY
The patients were delighted when they were given their first Christmas Party of the season at the Drummond Far West Home, Manly, by members of the 'Jolly Revellers' from the Chullora Railway Workshops. As they have done in the past for several years they entertained the children with a variety concert, the colorful dressing of the girl dancers, the chorus and the antics of the clown were a great joy to the little patients. Many of them had never before seen Father Christmas in all his regalia and were almost overcome with happiness when he appeared toward the end of the evening and gave each child a present. Nursing staff were very impressed with his thoughtfulness in providing a small gift for each of them also.

  OBITUARY
Russell James Price was born on the 26th January 1921, to Albert Price and Henrietta Watson. He was the youngest of 8 children. Hugh (or Reggie as he was affectionately known), Hilda, Ernie, Alec, my father Alan, Lila, Hazel and our dear Uncle Russell. All the Price men were raised as gentlemen and were quiet, shy, retiring men. Notwithstanding this, they all had a wicked sense of humour which I am sure has been passed down through our generation and to our children's as well. Russell had an enormous love, affection and admiration for his parents which he often reinforced in our conversations together.
Russell spent his early years in service to his country by joining the Army. He also worked alongside his brother and his father who was the Foreman at the original Arnotts Biscuits Factory creating and establishing a strong foundation for what became one of the best known Companies which still carries on this tradition today.
Russell was well known for his creative side and was very constructive with his hands. He loved to make his own pot plants and holders, fish tanks and numerous other creative ideas extending out as far as constructing, spray painting and placing transfer pictures on baby furniture. He tinkered with many a project.
Russell also was an avid music fan and would often be heard humming away or playing his old piano accordion, ukelele or slide guitar. He loved Hawaiin music and I will always think of him whenever I hear The Hawaiin Wedding Song. His love of music also led him to meet his dear wife Lily as they both had the same passion for music and entertainment. They married later in life and not having children themselves, doted on their many nieces and nephews. Their love of travel gave them many wonderful memories of holidays, especially on the Gold Coast and finally a dream fulfilled trip to Hawaii to savour the Hawaiin traditions and music first hand.
We will miss you dear Uncle, your sweet smile and mischievous giggle, your boxing techniques and your firm grip of a handshake, as we let your hand go reluctantly here in this life, we place it lovingly in the hand of our beloved Creator, to care for you until we meet again.
