  LOVABLE CHARACTER PASSES
  Death of Mrs. Annie Stapleton
There was genuine sorrow in Mudgee when it became known that Mrs Annie Stapleton, widow of the late Mr John Stapleton, had passed away at her home at Randwick on Saturday evening. Born at Penrith about 65 years ago, she was married to her late husband in Sydney, and came with him to this district shortly afterwards. The worthy pair first settled at Cooyal, and there Mrs Stapleton endeared herself to the whole community. When Mr. Stapleton received the appointment of Health Inspector with the Mudgee Council, the family removed to town, and here they resided until a few years ago, when a move was made to Randwick. Although the late Mrs. Stapleton did not take a particularly active part in the town's affairs, she became known to a wide circle of the residents, who held her in the deepest esteem. To those in need of a helping hand she was a true friend, and her kindly deeds will live after her. It can be truly said that she delighted in doing good by stealth, and that no charitable appeal ever failed to enlist her sympathy. Altogether she was a most lovable character, and the world is the poorer by her passing.
Her late husband, who was also one of Mudgee's finest characters, predeceased her by exactly thirteen months. The remains were brought to Mudgee this morning, and after an impressive service in St. Mary's Church by Rev. Father O'Byrne, the sad cortege proceeded to the general cemetery, where the interment took place. The Right Rev. Monsignor Flanagan officiated at the graveside, and paid an eloquent tribute to the worth of deceased. The following, sons and daughters are left to mourn their great loss, and to the sorrowing ones, the "Guardian" extends sincere, sympathy:- Jack, Bernie, Vincent, Joseph (Sydney), Thomas (Mudgee), Lily (Mudgee), and Nora and Mary (Sydney). Two sisters, who reside at Penrith, also survive.
