  PROFESSION OF BRIGIDINE NUNS.
  (from our correspondent.)
A very solemn and impressive ceremony took place in St. Mary's Church, Ararat (Vic), on Tuesday last. The ceremony was the profession of four nuns, the first who have taken the black veil at the Convent of St. Brigid. His Lordship the Bishop of Ballarat, the Right Rev. Dr. Moore, officiated, the Rev. Father Foley, of Nhill, assisting. The Very Rev. Father O'Farrell, C.SS.R., of Ballarat, preached a most eloquent and powerful sermon. The other clergy present were - Very Rev. Father Meade (of Ararat), and the Rev. Frs. O'Donoghue (Portland), Shanahan (Hamilton), and Howell (Stawell). The novices, who entered the convent three years ago, were: Miss M. Tobin, daughter of Mr. T. Tobin, Mayor of Ararat, who look the religious name of Sister Mary Stanislaus ; Miss Hanrahan, daughter of Mr. Hanrahan, of Bungaree, who took the name of Sister Mary Clare; Miss Farrell, daughter of Mr. William Farrell, of Coonamble, who took the name of Sister Mary Agnes; and Miss Purcell, from Ireland, whose religious name is Sister Mary Evangelist. Farmer's Mass was sung by the choir in a very effective manner, one of the Sisters presiding at the organ, and the voices of the singers in the concerted parts blending most harmoniously. During the prostration of the novices at the altar after their renunciation of the world the "Te Deum" was sung. The ceremonial all through was solemn, impressive, and affecting, more especially when the world had been renounced by the novices and they took the vows and received from the hands of the Bishop, with his blessing, the insignia of their holy calling, and were clothed with the black veil.
