  OCCUPATION: Howard was a wholesaler of rubber footwear and later athletic and casual footwear, as well. The Alexander Rubber Company in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania was founded and owned by Howard and his brother, Charles.
  "In the late 1920's Howard and his brother, Charles, founded The Alexander Rubber Company. The company was a wholeseller of rubber boots and rubber shoes. Later, Converse athletic footwear were added to the stock. The office and showroom were located at 13-15 North Fourth Street, an area that was, or became, the "shoe" district of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. One of Howard's sons, James, became the bookkeeper. Another son, Donald, was a salesman for the company. Howard was elected President of the Philadelphia Shoe Club in 1936
  Charles passed away in 1956 making Howard sole president of the company. The business was liquidated in the early 1960's." (5)

  The Philadelphia Shoe Club was organized June 19, 1935 for mutual protection and cooperation, chiefly in the wholesale shoe field in and around Philadelphia. Retail merchants have been greatly aided by this club since its inception and the club has planned a comprehensive program for the second year." (6)

 HOWARD M. ALEXANDER
  Howard M. Alexander of 1437 Hillside Rd., Wynnewood, died Monday at Bryn Mawr Hospital after a brief illness. He was 73.
 He was founder and immediate past president of the former Alexander Rubber Co., Philadelphia. He was a Mason, and a member of he Philadelphia Shoe Club and the Medford Lakes, N. J. Colony Club.
 Surviving are his wife, the former Marjorie Stiles; a daughter, Mrs. Frank G. Van Horn of Wynnewood; and four sons, James R. of Norristown, M. Donald of Cherry Hill, N. J.; C. Clinton 3rd of Medford Lakes and Howard L. of Bala-Cynwyd. Eighteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren also survive.
 Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. tomorrow at the Stuard Funeral Home in Ardmore. Internment will be in West Laurel Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at Stuard's between 7 and 9 p.m. this evening.

  Howard M. Alexander, a retired executive, died yesterday in Bryn Mawr Hospital. He was 73 and lived at 1437 Hllside road (sic), Wynnewood.
 He was founder and a former president of the former Alexander Rubber Co., wholesale distrubutors of rubber footwear and shoes. He was a member of the Philadelphia Shoe Club and Medford Lakes, N. J. Colony Club. He was a Mason.
 Surviving are his wife, the former Marjorie Stiles; a daughter, Mrs. Frank G. VanHorn (sic); four sons, James H., M. Donald, C. Clinton, 3d and Howard L.; 18 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
 Services will be held at 11 A. M. Friday at Stuard's, 104 Cricket Ave., Ardmore. Burial will be in West Laurel Hill Cemetery.

 Surviving are his wife, Marjorie, and five children, James H. of Norristown, Pa., Mrs. Frank G. Van Horn of Wynnewood, Pa., M. Donald of Cherry Hill, N. J. Clinton 3rd, of Medford Lakes and Howard L. of Bala-Cynwyd, Pa. Also 18 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
 Mr. Alexander was a Medford Lakes summer resident since 1933.
 Services were held Friday at the Stuard Funeral Home in Ardmore, Pa. Internment was in West Laurel Hill Cemetery, Bala Cynwyd, Pa. (sic)
