Notes
a. Continued:   John was a Revolutionary Soldier; died intestate in Oxford, PA as John "Mulvain". Reputedly, he was severely wounded at the Brandywine Battle of Sept. 11, 1777. His estate was appraised in Oct., 1793 by John Junkins and Thomas Whiteside (his brothers-in-law).
Chester Co, PA, 1800: David Douglas (son of John's widow) of Jefferson Co. (evidently in Ohio) was listed as the guardian of John, Joseph, Junkin and Hannah Mulvain.
1779 tax list, East Nottingham Tp., Chester Co., PA: John "M'Elven"
He purchased 106 acres of land as John "McElvain" (same tract in Chester Co. later owned by orphans of John "Mulvain"). Son William spelled his surname "Mullvene" and "Mullvean" in court records of 1800. In an 1800 orphan's record, his stepson David Douglas used the variant spelling "McIlvaine".
