Note:   According to Colin Blaxter the name Blaxter (also spelt Blackster, Blaxtor, Blaxster) is of Norman origin meaning bleacher. The earliest appearances of it in public records being, apparently, that of William de Blakestere in 1199, followed by Richard le Blakestare and John Blakestre in 1275. There are records of several Blaxter's in Norfolk parish registers in the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries.
