Received License for The "White Horse" public house, Bridge or Coslany Street, Norwich, Norfolk on 24 Jun 1849 (and listed as William Lawrence Rix an inn keeper and dyer, possibly mistranscribed from William Rix of St. Lawrence) until replaced on 29 Sep 1866. The White Horse was founded in c1760 and owned by Richard Rix of Geldeston from 20 Oct 1838 to 18 Sep 1841 before its' sale to Richard Bullard (of Bullard's brewery), and was destroyed when the license transferred to the Garden House Tavern, 1 Pembroke Road, South Heigham on 5 Aug 1879. The site now contains housing. Richard Rix was probably living Cowgate Street, St. Paul, Norwich, Norfolk at time of 1841 census (as a brewer, age 39, with wife Ann, age 47) and was a convict in Millbank Prison, St. John the Evangelist, Westminster, London at time of 1851 census (as a married maltster and brewer, born Cantley, Norfolk, age 48) and was married Norwich (St. Stephen), Norfolk 18 Sep 1827 (whilst of St. Stephen, signed marriage license R. Died Age 80 whilst a licensed victualler of St. Lawrence, Norwich resident at Workhouse, Heigham (informant John Bangay, registered Sep 1881). John Rix (a shoemaker, born Norfolk, age 55) was living Great Poringland, Norfolk at time of 1841 Census with 4 x offspring. However as John Fransham was sexton of the parish of St. John Maddermarket at time of his death his witnessing of this William's marriage was probably in that capacity rather than through any family relationship. 2) related to Elizabeth Rix married to George Barker (a shoemaker) with offspring William Lawrence Barker born 6 Sep 1818, baptised Norwich (St. Michael-at-Thorn), Norfolk 13 Sep 1818, buried Norwich (St. Michael-at-Thorn), Norfolk 22 Sep 1818 (as an infant) and William Lawrence Barker buried Norwich (St. Michael-at-Thorn), Norfolk 26 Dec 1819 (as an infant). 1841 Census lived Bridge Street, St. Michael Coslany, Norwich, Norfolk - Age 41. 1851 Census lived "White Horse", Bridge Street, St. Lawrence, Norwich, Norfolk - Age 50. 1861 Census lived Bridge Street, St. Lawrence, Norwich, Norfolk as a married man without family - Age 60. 1881 Census an inmate in Norwich Union Workhouse, Heigham, Norwich, Norfolk as a widower - Age 79 (born Timberhill).
