On death of father in 1884 took over running of family firm with brother Edward (hence creating Darby Brothers). In 1885 moved to 23 Station Road, Beccles, Suffolk. A witness to marriage of half-sister Georgiana in 1895. Announced in East Suffolk Gazette 6 Apr 1915 "Death of Albert W. Darby J.P., partner in the firm of Darby Bros, timber merchants, aged 64. His chief recreation was yachting. He assisted in the revival of the Regatta, which fell into abeyance on the death of his father Samuel Darby [who died 31 years before]. He was secretary for 20 years. Sailed "Sunbeam" and won the Challenge Cup last season. He was a Liberal. Leaves a widow, one daughter & six sons, two of whom are in Canada, one in West Africa, two in London and the youngest is a Lieutenant in the 3rd East Anglian Howitzers. [in 1904 and 1913 he lived at North House, Ravensmere. His sons: A.R.M. Darby, Frank, Lieut. Colin]". of North House, Beccles at time of son Gilbert's arrival in USA in 1913. Both his yachts "Sunbeam" and "Vera" plus his other boats were put up for sale after his death. Died Age 64 whilst resident at North House, Beccles, Suffolk (registered Christchurch Jun 1915). Probate London 5 Jun 1915 to widow Christian Brissenden Darby and son Frank Norval Sims Darby. Effects £2,775 18s. A timber merchant at time of son Albert's marriage in 1921 and a deceased timber merchant at time of son Frank's marriage in 1930. 1851 Census lived 13 Bridge Street, Beccles, Suffolk - Age 3 months. 1861 Census lived Smallgate Street, Beccles, Suffolk with Catherine Finney and others - Age 10. 1871 Census lived near the Bridge, Gillingham, Norfolk with father and stepmother - Age 20. 1881 Census lodged 18 Kingsley Road, Maidstone, Kent with David Fuller and family - Age 30. 1891 Census lived Bridge House, Gillingham, Norfolk as an employer - Age 40. 1901 Census lived New Road, Beccles, Suffolk as an employer - Age 56(50?). 1911 Census lived North House, Ravensmere, Beccles, Suffolk as an employer - Age 60.
