Notes
a. Note:   According to the story told by his daughter, Esther, Swan's original surname was Swanson. When he came through
immigration, an "ignorant Irishman" told him to change it,
because there were too many Swansons in Minnesota already.
Well, that man may or may not have been ignorant, but he was
absolutely right about the number of Swansons, and the
advisability of having a somewhat more unique name. So Swan
changed the last syllable of his surname to "strom", which
means "stream" in Swedish, and is common in Swedish names
 (i.e., Lindstrom, Hagstrom, Chelstrom).
According to the Swedish records, Svante Swanson and at least
one brother used the surname Swanstrom, even in Sweden.
b. Note:   Swan's birthdate was sometimes given as 14 or 28 October, 1848, but 27 October appears to be the correct date. He was
born in Elstorp, Sèodra Kedum. Skaraborgs Lèan is a modern
county in Sweden. It corresponds to the north-eastern half of
the old province or Landskap of Vèastergèotland.
c. Note:   This is the day that they said they were married, but I don't know where it was, nor have I found the record.
