Note: The following is taken from the book "Wivelsfield the History of the Wealden Parish" Edited byHeather Warne, Page 149 Thomas Baldock came from Wadhurst in 1840 as minister and took up residence at the Meeting House. The first to follow Thomas and his wife Mary to the village was his brother John. He had been a tenant farmer in their home village of Wadhurst but his landlord having died, the farm was in the hands of executors. In the 1840s, being too old to start again when the farm had to change hands, John, his wife Maria and one of their sons,William, came to work for MrBrattle also born in Wadhurst, who had just brought Manns Farm. Left behind with his Uncle William, was young John Baldock, the other son. Thomas Baldock continued as the pastor at Wivelsfield until his death in 1873. In 1861 John (21 years) is a Servant at Plumpton Mills, Plumpton, the census also shows that Philadelphia Ridley (17 years) is also a servant in the same establishment. John and Philadelphia are married 5 years later.
