Note: «i»Inglewood local paper, Tuesday August 27, 1929.«/i» PIONEER PASSES. The death of Mr. William Roe on Saturday at the age of 82 years removed one of Inglewood's oldest residents. Born in England, he came to Inglewood when a youth to follow the occupation of a butcher, and his reminiscences of the mining days, when he drove a cart around the Inglewood, Kingower and Berlin fields, were of absorbing interest. He was the oldest member of the A.O.F. Lodge, and a very popular member. His wife, who died some years ago, was also an esteemed member of the community. Some time ago the late Mr. Roe journeyed to Tasmania to be with his family, who are residents of that state, but his old house called, and he returned to Inglewood in May, shortly after the death of his son. Two daughters are left to mourn the loss of a devoted parent. The internment took place yesterday. The casket was borne to the grave by brethren of the A.O.F., Bro. C. Shepherd reading the Lodge service. Canon McCoy conducted the Anglican burial service. Mr. L. Appleby was in charge of the funeral arrangements. [The following information is from covering letter from Inglewood Historical Society, Feb 2010. Myrna.] «i»*I notice William Roe is not in the cemetery book under ROE, but is under ROWE, buried grave 1296, 26/7/1929, aged 82 CofE. R/O wife's grave (1092) etc. *(Obituary in paper on 27/8/1929 said buried yesterday - 26/8 so a spelling and a date error??)«/i»]
