Note: BIRTH Birthdate is listed on a page listing parent's and children's birthdates included in a Saylor family Bible in possession of WRS. STORY Sometime is the early 1940's Grama Saylor told me about her family dying of consumption, which I later learned was TB. She described members of her family in an upstairs bedroom and the stovepipe into it being removed so that they could raise and lower food placed in a pail or basket which was then pulled up and lowered with a rope. It was to keep away from direct contact due to contagion. She also indicated that waste had to be treated in the same way. She was amazed that she survived and others did not. The other little comment I remember was her obvious pleasure in describing Grandpa as a young man coming over the hill on a horse, and how outstanding he was. Source: As emailed by Harriet V.
