a. Note:   He was a fine athlete, and about 6ft tall. After being given a 2 yardadvantage, he beat the world champion in the 100 yard race in theearly 1900's.
 Being a policeman between 1900 & 1921 was regarded with disfavourby the Irish Nationalists at the time when revolution was being attempted.He was threatened with death if he did not resign and leave the country.There is a story that, when at the alter rails, taking communion,the man kneeling beside him (also a policeman) was shot. Willie leftIreland and moved to Yorkshire, eventually becoming Inspector of Weightsand Measures for the country.
