Son Wesley C. Ellis email March 6, 2006: After Millsaps, I don't have a clue what Daddy did. I have heard, however, (I think from Aunt Lola) that he drifted around a bit, working at several jobs before settling down at Chatom, Washington County, Alabama where he met Mama. So it's quite possible that he would have been in Ruston, LA (per 1910 United States Federal Census) during that period. Unfortunately, there's no one left to verify this.
Son Wesley C. Ellis April 12, 2014 comments about burial:
Several years ago, (my sister) Carolyn and I discussed the feasibility of having Daddy moved from Selma to Auburn, but decided against it for several reasons. Then Carolyn hit on the idea of having a marker placed next to Mama. If my memory is still functioning correctly, the marker has his name at the top, his birth and death dates and, below that, "Buried in Selma, Alabama." Monday of last week (Mar. 31) was the 81st anniversary of his death.
The Selma graveside photo of Mama and the six children (See Media) was taken on my birthday, four days after his death and the day after his funeral. Daddy was buried in the lot of Mrs. T. J. Jackson. I'm pretty sure that Mr. Jackson's name was Thomas Jefferson Jackson. Mrs. Jackson's maiden name was Cola Barr Craig. She was widowed also and later moved to Auburn so her children could go to college here. Mrs. Jackson befriended Mama while Daddy was in the hospital and they became lifelong friends. She lived in a beautiful antibellum home on the banks above the river about two blocks from the hospital. She insisted that Mama come to her home anytime to rest, nap, bathe, eat, etc. Sadly the house was demolished a number of years ago and in its place stands an ugly, flat topped, seedy motel. This is progress?
One more comment: Daddy died during the great depression and Mrs. Jackson knew that Mama did not have money for a cemetery plot. She offered a space on the Jackson lot in New Live Oak Cemetery, reserving the space next to Daddy for Mama when the time came. Time changed that part of the plan, of course.
