Notes
a. Note:   NI1370 If James Cleveland Linn who supposedly helped to build or actually built the Springdale Methodist church and possibly had a part in building the Rochester Methodist church, I would say he and his wife were probably Methodists.

"James was a carpenter, he built the Springdale and Rochester Methodist Churches, out of native pine wood. Today these churches are still very active. He also built the Linn family home in/about 1860/1870's. Many family members were married, gave birth and passed away there. It still is standing today with little remodeling on the inside. The barn is still standing, when it was built there was no nails used. Legend has it that James was very careful with his money, and (not to) drop a staple or nail on the ground, he spent more time looking for it then we would have. Many of the barns he built are still standing in the Springdale, Iowa community. James is spoke of to this day. James died 22 March 1922 on the Linn farm. Not long before his death he told a friend he was not afraid to go because he had always tried to do what is right. The funeral services were held in the Bethel Church and interment made in the Bethel Cemetery. Mary stayed at the house for a while after James passed on. She made beautiful hand sewn linen table cloth's, did a lot of mending and sewing of clothes. Mary became bored and went to work at the County Jail house as a cook, she would say they were tilted when the prisoner's were brought for drinking too much. She was best always thought of wearing patched overall's, even when she would go visiting family. I've been told she made the best sugar cookie's, that she kept in an old churn jug with a wooden lid on it. Mary had blue eyes and blonde hair. She passed away on 8 Aug 1940 and is laid to rest with James in (West) Bethel Cemetery."
