a.	Note: NI152 After the birth of the third child in 1890, the mother, Jane Davis, died several weeks thereafter. All three of the children were then sent to live with relatives in Iowa. Both Mary and her sister, Katherine, were sent to Muscatine, Iowa to live with Robert S. Amlong and wife Mary Anna McLaughlin-Amlong, a sister to John McLaughlin. James Samuel McLaughlin, the infant son, was sent to live with Samuel McLaughlin and family in near by Johnson County, Iowa. ---------------------------------------- The Muscatine County Register of Deaths shows a Katherine McLaughlin who died on Mar 25, 1907 but this is not the same Katherine McLaughlin who was the sister of Mary McLaughlin. The person that died in 1907 was 95 years old. That is still too old for her to have been the mother of John McLaughlin. It is not known yet if she were related to any of the John McLaughlin family and since Katherine's father was born in Pennsylvania, it appears very unlikely that this person would have been related to this family line. ---------------------------------------- Nancy Brinkmann tells that Katherine died in the hospital after undergoing a seemingly routine operation for something such as gall bladder, etc. ------------------------------------------
