Note: NI20883 The exact birth year for Clara is somewhat confusing. On the various census reports, she seldom provided the same information and reported her age a year or more younger than she actually was, as was typical of women in those days.
Her gravestone has the year of 1880 but that is most likely incorrect. Her obituary reported a birth date of July 17, 1889 but that cannot be correct because she was enumerated in the 1880 US Census. The most likely birth date would seem to be in 1877, or more precisely July 1877 as was reported on the 1900 US Census, the only census which requested a month and a year of birth. The 1880 US Census reported her to be 2 years old which would fit with the July 1877 birth date. An early census of a person when they were just infants or young children are probably more reliable because at such a young age, they had little reason to be deceitful about their age.
