The following 1920 US Census seems to fit some of the data for Mary Keeffe, ex-wife of David Shanabrook but there are a few things to cause me to believe it is for a different Mary Keefe. It may be true that by this date David Shanabrook may have died thus making Mary Shanabrook widowed but there is no documentation to David's date of death. Further, this 1920 US Census has Mary reverting to her maiden name, somewhat of an un-orthodox move. In addition, the age listed on the census does not match the age for Mary Shanabrook who would have been about 73 instead of the 57 reported. And finally, her birth location was Canada instead of Ireland. Therefore, I believe that the Mary Keefe shown on this 1920 census form is not the same Mary that married David Shanabrook.

Apparently, Mary never sought citizenship through the naturalization process. Her mother also never sought citizenship.
  --------------------------------------------
In Mary's obituary, all 7 of her children are listed as survivors as follows:
 - Mrs. Arthur Towner (Anna) living in Cincinnati - E. J. (Edgar) Shanabrook living in Cincinnati - W. A.(H) (William) Shanabrook of Logan, West Virginia - Mrs. John (Margaret) Herman - Mrs. (Iva) Smith - Mrs. Earl J. (Mary) Adams - Warren Shannabrook of Trempealeau She was carried to her last resting place by her eight nephews Mervin, Howard, Edmund and Mark Keeffe, and Ed, William, Glen, and Harry Drugan. Burial was on Jan 15, 1919.
She had been in poor health with pernicious anemia for a year and only confined to the home the past few months when called. She was a member of the Methodist church and was highly respected by everyone.

c. Note:   NF7676 David took the young catholic Mary just a few miles from Canada across the Saint Lawrence River to Ogdensburgh, NY where they were married in a Methodist church.
 ------------------------------------------
David and Mary split-up and lived separately sometime after 1885. It appears that Mary and the children remained in Wisconsin while David returned to Pennsylvania to continue his work as a photographer and artist. He moved to Perry County, Pennsylvania where most of his family was living. As early as the 1895 Wisconsin State Census, Mary was listed as the Head of the Household but on the 1900 US Census, both David and Mary indicated that they were married for 36 years. However, on the 1910 US Census Mary indicated that she was widowed while David was still living in Pennsylvania. On the 1920 US Census, Mary continued to indicate that she was widowed.
