Hi Brian
I've been reading the letters I have from Michael Arnsberger written while he was in camp during the Civil War. This is really falling into place. In one of the letters written in 1864 he talks about a wife and son, but in a kidding way, and I wasn't sure if he was serious or trying to get a response from his niece Elizabeth that the letters were written to. She would have been a girl of pretty impressionable age and not yet married. I'm really glad to get some names and dates to go with the letters. In a letter dated 1862 he mentions Reuben but said he was left at Lebanon as he was sick and in a hospital. He didn't indicate he had been wounded, and I don't know if it was Lebanon, Missouri, or where. The letter was headed Camp Thomas, Nashville, Tennessee.
The last letter was in 1866 and came from Stryker, Ohio. He is home but doesn't say how long he has been there. He mentions Christian, Daniel and Jacob's families being home, but Watson is still in Missouri and not liking it there so was thinking of going to Iowa. This letter was written on January 15 (1866) so I don't know if he was speaking of the other boys being home from the war or maybe home for Christmas.
This is interesting. In the 1866 letter he is answering a question of his parents ages. His father would be 72 on December 12, 1866 and his mother 69 on November 17, 1866. That would be Susannah's parents too which would make his father born in 1794 and mother in 1797. In one of my mother's records she shows Elizabeth Arnsberger mother of Susannah Lightfoot death date as 1 October 1874.
Susannah Lightfoot died 18 Feb 1904 and Michael attended her service. His address then was listed as Americus, Kansas

 ----------------------------------------
I find this very interesting. There are two gravestones for Michael Arnsberger. One is located in Bushong Cemetery in Lyon County, Kansas with his first wife, Mary Ann Colgan. A second gravestone is located in Boynton Cemetery in Williams County, Ohio. Which one is he buried in?
I don't know for sure but since he was divorced from his first wife, I doubt if he is actually buried along side her even though the gravestone was updated with his actual date of death which was 20 years or more following her death. So does that mean he is buried along side his second wife? That answer is probably no because she was buried along side her first husband and father of her children, Joseph R. Barnum.
Therefore it would seem that Michael's final resting spot would be the sole gravestone in Boynton Cemetery in Williams County, Ohio however close examination of that gravestone reveals that his year of death was never inscribed into the stone. And that leads me to believe that Michael was never buried in Boynton Cemetery.
The focus now shifts back to his other gravestone in Kansas. Perhaps the reason that his actual date of death was inscribed on that stone means that Michael was laid to rest along side his first wife after all.
 -------------------------------------------
b. Note: DI2841 There appears to be no definitive document which shows where Michael died but in all probability it was in Williams County, Ohio where he last appear in the 1920 census. His body was probably shipped back to Lyons County, Kansas where he was buried alongside his first wife.
